A program for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Made possible by a partnership with Mary Greeley Medical Center and Ames Fitness Center.
What is Courage in Motion? Courage in Motion is your pathway hope and health! Led by Jessica Sporaa, Certified Personal Trainer, participants have the opportunity to meet on a weekly basis to connect, share stories, and exercise together. Participants will also be given a 12-week fitness membership to Ames Fitness Center.
Who is eligible? All cancer patients undergoing treatment or those people who have had treatment within the past year. One support person of the patient is also invited to attend.
When are the weekly sessions? Sessions are held every Friday at 10:30 am at the AFC North. The type of class will vary from week to week. For specific questions on the classes, contact Michelle Flattery at [email protected].
What will we do in the session? The sessions will run approximately one hour. The first 15 minutes will be dedicated to a meet and greet, welcoming new people and sharing stories. The next 45 minutes will be dedicated to exercise which will include either stretching, aqua fitness or light weight lifting.
Will the exercise be too hard for me? Sessions will be set up so it is welcoming for every fitness level and age. Options will be shown. If you would rather sit out and watch, that is fine too. There is no attendance requirement and no fitness level prerequisite. Standard fitness attire is suggested.
How do I get started? Prior to starting the program, you must get a medical clearance from your doctor. Print off a copy here. (Make sure to scroll down to page 2). Please bring in this form to our membership office at North. Our membership staff will help you complete the proper paperwork to start your club membership.
